The CAPTION.COOL Closed Captioning Literacy Campaign
Purpose: CAPTION.COOL is a multi-faceted, public-service (greater-good) initiative that promotes the use of closed captioning (CC) during all screen time (T.V. and Online) to boost literacy and maximize screen time consumption for kids aged 8 – 12. We educate parents, teachers, and society-at-large to encourage all kids, but especially those from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds, to click #captionsON to improve their reading skills and increase their present and future life opportunities through the power of literacy.

Mission: “Turn Screen Time into Reading Time.” The fusion of literacy, technology and empathy is what fuels our CAPTION.COOL mission.

Vision: To drive all American kids (for starters!) to click #captionsON during all screen time to improve their reading skills in a cool, fun, free, way that will, in time, become an automatic reflex, (like buckling up your seatbelt is a reflex now, before starting to drive).

Diversity: CAPTION.COOL is as unique and as diverse as America! From Day One, we created the CAPTION.COOL family with variety at its core. The CAPTION.COOL brand was created by and with heart to include all kids from all backgrounds who struggle with reading. Ours is not a cookie-cutter campaign: our original CAPTION.COOL Family characters each have a story which will evolve our campaign to reach kids in their homes, heart and minds!
Passion: Truly a passion project, the #captionsON campaign is empathy-based and crafted with over 150 years of respective and collective team passion for both literacy and the use of captions to enhance literacy. We are fearless and ready to fail at first in order to succeed in the long term and realize our mission of changing mindsets to consume all screen time with #captionsON to improve literacy - without even opening a book.
